peony

I have a couple of volunteer trees which have crowded my peonies out. I need to transplant the peonies to a more appropriate area. The warm days and cool nights of late have me anxious to do it now since the leaves are turning brown. The last time I tried transplanting in the winter I planted them too low and they did not come back, so I donÂt want to do that again. Is it okay to transplant them now, or is there a better time during the year? Better yet is there anyone that can tell me how to do this?

If the leaves are brown now, no harm will be done by moving them now. I would prepare the new site by digging in compose to two feet deep mixing well with native soil. Al
