6' Jalapeno plant, keeps flowering!!!

ainadalielFebruary 21, 2011

So I read that when the Jalapeno seedlings are still small but start to flower, to pinch off the flower so that energy can be used by the plant to grow some more. My problem is, they keep flowering!!! I've pinched off like, FIVE flowers already, but my 6-inch Jalapeno still insists it wants to keep flowering!

Should I keep pinching or just let it be?

I have let my hot pepper plants flower at a young age and it definatley stunts their growth. They are maybe under alot of stress to be flowering at such a early age. May want to give it more light and more nutrients.

I agree, keep pinching. 6 inches is wayyy to small for it to be considered even close to an adult plant.

Yep, last year i bought a few starter pepper plants from a nursery that were way to small, but did have pod or pods growing on them. It seemed those plants never caught up to the ones i grew from seed unless i picked those early pods off and gave em a growth spurt.

Ouch! I have a bunch of 1' plants that are flowering in pots. I will be planting them in raised beds this week. Is that too short to allow them to flower too?

I, personally, pull the flowers off before transplanting into the garden.

That said, early flowers will often abort on their own, whether you leave them or not.
