insect egg id?

anniew213March 25, 2010

My urban backyard has a 2x4 ft container garden. I turned over the soil and planted my spring seeds earlier this week. Today, there were a scattering of insect eggs. They were separate round eggs, reasonably large (~1mm), and translucent pale yellow.

They look a little like the fertilizer balls you find in some potting soils, but they definitely weren't there before today, and we've never added that kind of soil in any case.

They also look a little like snail eggs (but are separate, not clumped) or moth eggs (but are on the soil surface, not on leaves). Anyone have any ideas?

I didn't think to take a picture before getting rid of them, sadly. But I'll add one if more turn up.

Snail eggs are opaque. Slugs eggs are translucent or clear.
