Digging up tulip bulbs in July?

Solorya(7a)July 28, 2013

I'm doing some landscaping in our yard and have decided to raise the flower bed that is against the house to help with drainage. There are about 40 tulip and daffodil bulbs planted in there, if I dig them up right now am I ruining them? Can I put them in the fridge or a cool closet and plant them again in fall? Can I put them back in the ground when I raise the bed?

No, you won't ruin them; they are in their summer dormancy right now. You can store them dry in a closet until it is time to put them back in the ground. No need to put them in the frig. That will make them think it is winter. You can put them back into the ground whenever you get the bed finished. The big growers send them out to be planted in the fall because that is when they begin root growth but you don't need to wait that long to replant them.
