Do I have spider mites?

weirdflowers(5)April 28, 2011

Over the past few days, I've noticed several little, reddish mites running wildly around on a calla lily, and I saw some very small, pale marks--kind of wavy parallel lines as if little ditches had been chiseled in the leaf. I also saw several more of these mites running around in pots containing still-dormant plants. These mites are fast movers. It's pretty hard to keep track of them. Is this the beginning of a spider mite infestation? I've never dealt with spider mites before, so I don't know...

Spider or perhaps other mites and leaf miners, from info provided and no pix. Impossible to guess if beginning of infestation from info provided.

Spider mites are extremely tiny, barely visible with the naked eye, and they can't make tunnels.

Sounds more like one of the clover mites or other of the same ilk.
