What's eating my raspberry leaves?

gherzonMay 6, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I found about a dozen of these tiny caterpillars (quarter inch long at most) eating the meaty area of the leaves between leaf veins. I dealt with them manually and kept an eye open for more. Today I found just this one, a little larger (Half inch or so) so I'm thinking it's one I missed rather than a new infestation. I have grapes and zucchini nearby with smaller vegetables further away but only the one raspberry was effected. Can anyone tell me what this little pest is? The smaller ones had darker heads but I'm certain its the same bug.

Looks like a caterpillar but is a sawfly. Bottom line: Likes to eat leaves.

Remedy: continue search & destroy missions.
