What type of palm/banana tree is this?

Ravenala madagascariensis. (Travellers Palm)

Its not a palm, its closer to the banana family (musa).

Definitely a beautiful example of a travelers palm. Its not an actual palm though. Its closely related to the birds of paradise and they look very similar.

They aren't really that tropical.

Mine does well here in southern Ca.

It even flowers here.
