What are these critters?

iamzvonko(5)June 20, 2013

While removing the straw mulch from a bed I found a ton of critters that just didn't look like they are beneficial. Here's a picture of 4 of them. Any ideas what they are?

#1 - looks like a worm but is almost translucent
#2 - also looks somewhat translucent but it has a ton of legs like a centipede
#3 - reminds me of an armadillo with the shell
#4 - might be a mature version of #2 because it has the same kind of legs but I have no clue

Thanks for any feedback

1 = millipede, a scavenger; belongs there
2 = unable to see it well to guess
3 = sowbug, a scavenger; belongs there
4 = centipede; normal for such a habitat; not dangerous; predator of small soil-surface crawling things.

==>>> what does a beneficial look like????

just kidding. ...

ones or twos of anything are never a problem...

if you moved the straw ... and found a thousand of something.. in a very small area .... then that might trigger some interest on my part ... were i helping you ...

try to relax.. when playing in the yard ... they were under straw .. that was you first clue.. they dont eat green material .... eh???

Well, they'll be carrying a little teeny tiny sign saying "I'm beneficial" of course!
