I suspect bad but didnt kill it just in case. 1/4 inch long worm or worm like creature on a sunflower.
Looks like a syrphid fly youngster. Eats aphids. Thus, a good guy.
What a great image of the syrphid maggot! Kudos to you, for not squishing it or spraying it first and asking questions later. Seems like more and more people are getting smart about that! ;-)
Be sure you google syrphid fly adults, so that you know what they look like. Most would mistake them for small bees or yellow jackets, etc.
Well if he eats aphids, he has plenty to eat, lol. I thought for sure it ate leaves, guess not. Yea I googled it & had no idea that was a hoverfly! We have lots of those every year.
