My visit to Plants Delight nursey!

chadec7aJuly 8, 2011

Just got home from Raleigh N.C., home of Plants Delight nursey. This weekends open house was the perfect excuse for me to buy some more plants for a new rock garden. And the gardens there a Juniper level were looking unbelievable. I'll try not to get too carried away with the pics.

Nice looking sabal birmingham

This trachy and several other palms where all growing in complete shade.

This pindo was starting to recover

Here is where they grow their plants before digging them up and moving them to the greenhouses.

Here is what I came home with

Then I had a order from yuccado waiting on me when I got home.

Thanks for looking,

Mksmth the plant in the photo is a Albizzia, common name mimosa "Fine wine". These are usually green and grow like weeds into large trees with peach colored blooms. This was purchased from the former city Hort. that was set up on cite. The first time I have ever seen them in this color. They had one graphed that wasn't as bright of a color and this one was from seed.

Jim by you leaving a comment assures me that I didn't lockup your computer. Though it might have taken an hour to load this post, seeing those agaves in bloom was worth it!

Great pics Chad. I have often looked at my Plant Delights catalog and thought it would be cool to go see the place. Now I really want to go. I really like the pic of the red bananas behind the needle palm. Is that Siam Ruby? Was that your first trip there or is it close enough to u that u are a regular? Ha ha

Jaynboro thanks, that was a Siam Ruby, I didn't look to see if they dig it up or had it potted.
Plant Delights is only 2 hours away. My first visit was back in February. That was nice to see how everything faired through winter.

Jim, according PDN's cold hardiness palm report they still don't have any real Takils. They did mention that they have killed several princeps. That they could not manage any cold hardiness from them. They have a list of what they have killed and any damage that survivors had.

I hear ya "according PDN's"....however here is a link to a post on EPS
with a picture of a Trachy (more than likely Takil)growing there.

At the very least this palm is Oreophilus or Manipur but my
money would be on Takil, judging by the ligules in the 4/5th

Here is a link that might be useful: Is this the real Takil? post on EPS
