Super Thin, Long Worm - Friend or Pest?

utahgirlJune 7, 2009

I found this worm today below my apple tree. It was squirming around dead branches and mud from this morning's rain. The worm is about 4 inches long and maybe a millimeter wide. It has a black section near one end and the rest is transparent white. It reminds me of some kind of parasitic worm, though it also looks like the good worms I have in my saltwater aquarium.

Any idea what this is and whether or not I should be concerned?

Thanks in advance for your help!

And you're correct that it's parasitic....but only on such insects as crickets, grasshoppers, beetles, and the like.
