Yellow Mold Stuff on Soil - what is it? (Photo)

nnsgardenJune 2, 2007

I went to water one of my plants and noticed this yellow/whitish stuff starting to form on the top of the soil in one of my container plants. The photo isn't super close, but it looks like tiny little white balls covered in a yellow furry mold. The plant is definitely not overwatered, so it doesn't seem the conditions would be good for mold. Anyway, does anyone know what this is? Should I repot the plant into fresh soil and toss this soil?

Can't see much detail in your small photo. But most likely, it's a mold degrading the organic stuff in the potting mix. So, not to worry; it won't affect your plant.
