Help Identify Hop Pest or Disease?

seegengrow(5)June 2, 2011

We're growing four kinds of hops this year, and we're having problems with some of the leaves. Some of them have holes in them. Some have very heavy gold-colored's nearly metallic in color (see photo of leaves exhibiting these issues). I haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. Initially I thought it was a feeding issue, so I've been giving it a balanced fertilizer and clipping the affected leaves, but the problem seems to keep coming back, worst on the oldest leaves. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much!

The top leaf shows marked environmental stress. perhaps extra hot and/or dry and/or windy and/or ran short of water?

Thanks, jean001a,

You may be right. The hops just come up like bulbs in the early spring, when the weather in Chicago is still extremely erratic. We've had storms followed by extreme chills followed by 90 degree heat and then back again. Hopefully as we move forward, the stabilizing weather will give our hops a break.

Anyone have any thoughts on the holes in the leaves?
