what is this thousands orange shell or skin found on my lawn

RuthAwkJune 1, 2011

I found thousands if not millions orange shells or skin on my garden, lawn, and plants. It looked like as if some kind of bugs have hatched or gotten out of that orange shell.

I'm getting worried because I wasn't able to find any bugs around it. They must have gotten inside the soil.

I've seen fire ants, black beetles, grubs, black ants, ants with wings.

I've attached a picture of the orange shells as i was able to collect it. What kind of bugs that hatched from this? Unless I'm mistaken as it's from shrubs, flowers, or tree? I haven't seen any of them that shows similar kind of orange shells.

Ruth, how is it that you haven't heard of the 17-Year-Cicadas in your area? Surely you can hear their "music"!

Those shed skins look a bit weather beaten, but that's what they are.
