small black ants carrying egss

BKKplanterJune 22, 2012

Just found this forum. I have some plants on my balcony and this is the 3rd time my plants have been infested with small black ants carrying white (eggs I believe) and they infiltrate inside and kill the roots of the plant. Pesticides are very difficult to get here. What can I do to protect my plants? Now I am concerned about my lemon tree I grew from seed. It is 1 1/2 years old about 4 feet high and I've found some of these ants in the pot carrying white stuff I believe are eggs.

Thanks for any help.

Ants like to nest in soils that are somewhat dry, so thoroughly wetting the soil in those pots could cause them to move to a more friendly environment.

BKKplanter, adding a small amount of lemon juice to the water increases their motivation to leave.

I believe the white things they are carrying are grubs. From what I have been told ant eggs are microscopic and you would not be seeing them.

I too am having ant problems and am allergic to chemicals so trying to do it on my own with the ant pro station and the gourmet ant liquid which is low dose boric acid they take back to the nest to kill off the colony. Only problem is this is the first year they do not seem to be taking to it so I just ordered a fresh bottle. Hope it was just too old and lost its umph.

Good luck to both of us.
