The palm Rotation starts Monday

andyandy(6bMI)August 4, 2011

We are looking at a major cool off after the weekend. We're supposed to have some humid high 80s this weekend but then highs in the low 80s and lows in the low 60s. Bitter sweet as that will feel awesome and I will be able to open my house again but it will mean a big time slow down in growth. I will move all of the palms during the week to the south side of my house. My house is brick so it means it is proably 10 degrees warmer during the day then the actual temperature. In addition the days are getting shorter so they will start getting direct sun at around 8-8:30 in the morning instead of 10-11. This should insure they get the same or more direct sun as they've been getting. I did this last year during a little warm up in October and my tall coconut put up a spear overnight after an 83 day. That spear became the new frond that just completely opened up this summer. My hope is I can end up with as much growth as I got last summer. Over the weekends when I'm working/hanging in the yard I'll move them back.

send some of those 60's my way. We will average highs in the 90's till almost mid september. Probably wont see any 60's till october 1st. My palms are the only ones not showing any stress from the almost 30 straight days of 100+.

At this point Id be happy to start moving/covering stuff up. Of course then winter depression would kick in and Id be dieing to get stuff uncovered.

I feel for you, two weeks ago today it was 100 here with a dew point of 76. It was like walking into a blast furnace. It felt as hot as any day I can remember but it was one day sanwhiched between a couple of 95 degree days. Good luck!

We have been having a lot of cooler weather here. Yesterday and today were both cloudy and in the low 80s!! August is always either brutally hot, or fall like. The upper 80s and humidity will return here though and all nights are still in the 70s so we have a bit of summer left thank goodness! I know that this is what everyone says every year, but this summer really did feel like it went so fast!
