Sow/Pill Bug Hot Banana Peppers

AmandaK2006July 13, 2011

I had no idea these bugs loved hot banana peppers so much?? They have completely hollowed out one very large hot banana pepper still attached to the stalk...seeds and all. And we had no idea what did it. Until tonight when I saw a very small pepper detached from the plant laying in the dirt being completely hollowed out by the sow/pill bugs. Not sure which is which of if they are one in the same?

We never had anything eating our hot banana peppers in the past, what is the best way to go about getting rid of these pests? They are eating the peppers before they are even ripe, so we can't pick them yet. Thanks.

Sow bugs, Pill Bugs, Wood Lice, Isopods, are for the most part scavangers helping digest decaying vegetative waste. they are seldom the real problem that you think they are. Most likely what you are seeing is the Isopods cleaning up after something else did the real damage.
These wee critters live where there is a fairly moist environment, under rocks, boards, and mulch.
