What pest is eating my lilies?

pumpkin2010(5)July 16, 2010

The picture says it all. I've put out a beer trap for slugs and haven't caught a single one. I've never seen a rabbit in our yard (fenced backyard) though there are a ton of neighbor cats that regularly prowl it.

Side note, there's a second batch of these same lilies in another part of the yard which haven't been touched. They were planted earlier so they are mature size now, while the ones in the picture are obviously just coming up.

Looks like 4-legged furry booger from here.

Do you have any large plantings that could be hiding a rabbit hole? It sure looks like something a rabbit would do. Some cats are also plant nibblers.

There are some kind of bushes nearby hiding a utility box...I suppose a rabbit could be coming out of there somewhere. Suggestions for getting rid of him? Cayenne pepper perhaps?
