My Columbines are Rotting!

learninglarkJuly 21, 2011

First of all, it has been very hot (no surprise) and dry here in Arkansas. I've been watering daily, but something has happened to my columbines. A few weeks ago two or three plants did this, and now a couple more are. The leaves get brown and dry and the roots are black, the roots are close to the surface and pull up very easily.

Here are some illustrative photos:

Columbines around me seed profusily and grow in the dryer soils but not in the wetter areas of the garden, so maybe yyour daily watering is too much for them. take a good look at the soil they are growing in and see how wet it is.

I agree, too much water. BTW, the columbines here seem to be shutting down for the year. I imagine Arkansas would have seen that a few weeks ago already.
