Plumeria Potting Mix some ???

peeweelovesorchidsMay 13, 2012

I'm relatively new to plumeria potting/growing, and also to this forum.

I am intrigued about something though. I have a huge plumeria tree planted in the ground, and since about 2 years ago, the gardener has been cutting it back because it's getting a big too big for its britches. Anyway, those cuttings are what precipitated my current plumeria obsession. I searched on the net and basically potted up the cuttings in cactus soil mixed with perlite.

I didn't lose any of the cuttings. So, I've just kept on potting the plumeria that I've bought in that mix. They are all doing well and I've yet to lose one.

However, as I read through the posts here, I notice a lot of you are using "gritty mix." What is this gritty mix comprised of?

So, what are the advantages/disadvantages of using this over regular soil? Thanks and I must say this forum has only served to increase my obsession. Now my orchids have to compete with my plumerias.
