Insects on Canada Red Chokecherry

DTPikeAugust 10, 2014

I would like some help identifying what the insect is on the bark of my tree and what treatment might be needed. It seems to be spreading from the bottom of the tree to the top. There are 1000's of them and they cover all the bark of the lower tree. The tree seems to be healthy and I cannot see any clear damage yet. I have Volck oil but have not treated yet. Any ideas?

I've been looking at this since you posted but nothing is clicking in my little gray cells. I wish that we had a good macro shot of those teensy guys. Do you see any indication that they are termites?

Could you try to describe them?

There's no reason to assume that they pose a problem and require 'treatment'. Most of the critters that we see in the great outdoors are either benign or beneficial.
