sunflower with disease

tropical_thought(San Francisco)August 25, 2010

This sun flower I got from a nursery kind of full grown, because I could not get any sun this summer to grow sunflowers. Now, we had a heat wave, it looked wilted, so I trimmed some of the leaves I found this. I now I have to dig it up and kill it, but what did I get so I can know better next time.

If the spots don't move, it looks like the fungus disease rust.

If so, no overhead watering. And /or find a way to control the weather!

"If the spots don't move..." LOL, good one, Jean!

Here's a rust infected leaf for you to compare. Looks like the same thing to me, too.

Jean and rhizo, what would you recommend to treat rust on perrenials (other than no over-head watering)?
