baiting armidillos and possums

pjames(8/LA)August 28, 2010

Something did some digging last night in my yard. It dug under a shed plus I noticed some holes in one of my garden beds. The law holes are like a squirrel would make but bigger. I'm thinking it is likely to be an armadillo. I have a couple live traps. I would rather use these than sit out with a shotgun and risk getting arrested. What would I use as bait for these two critters?

You haven't done the research on trapping 'dillos, have you? :-) All I can say is GOOD LUCK! They are notoriously difficult to trap, but I'll attach a link (one of many) to one of the variations on the same theme: you'll have to funnel them into a very strong trap.

Check with your local authorities to see what the regs. are once (IF) you manage to trap one. Most states do not allow the transportation of a critter from one location to another. You may have to take it somewhere to be disposed of (euthanized), or you will have to do it yourself.
