Has anyone tried running "too big" pine bark through a chipper/shredder to make finer bits? I have a bunch of half bags left over from screening...
I have read where people have done that. I also have read where people put them in a "pillow case" and then ran them over several times with a car/truck to break them up some more.
Pillow case and truck works great :) (Just don't tell the wife)
Lawn mower and catcher bag.......
I did it the old fashion way. My body is still sore today. They started out as Pine bark mini nuggets but I got them to a decent size after about 12+ hours for a half of yard.
But so far they tomato plants are doing well and gona buy more for my hot peppers next week.
Here is a link that might be useful: Pine Bark Chipping
I ran three half bags though the chipper.
What a mess! A chipper is a powerful air compressor and blows the results all over the neighborhood! After the first load, I put down a 20' x 20' drop cloth under the machine and managed to catch most of the fines on the cloth and in my hair.
At any rate, after screening I got the equivalent of two more bags so saved about $8 - and not having to screen them. I guess it's a fair trade-off...
butcher, you have way too much time and blisters on your hands.
