Orb Weavers are everywhere and come in several shapes and sizes.

Still the best low tech defense in the garden.

This one had a fly wrapped up a bit but she seemed preoccupied.

Then, from the underside, I saw why. She had a mouthful.

Gotta love it.

It's that time of year, for sure :-) And while I appreciate what the spiders contribute to the garden, I am not fond of walking through their webs. Which are everywhere!! Makes watering all my container plantings very challenging. So I routinely disturb the webs so I can water without fighting off spiderwebs and they are magically back in place the next morning. Persistant little buggers! And some not so little.

I'm always amazed at how long some of the main support web strands can reach...10- 15 feet or more. And yes, usually across a garden path at face height. And then, because they are support lines, they are tougher than normal.
