ANy benefit to killing slugs still

greyandamySeptember 17, 2011

I started late this year, about 3 weeks ago when the slug and snail population seemed to triple overnight. I've been bashing them daily, hundreds by now. Question, is this "vicious" killing I'm doing even going to benefit anything this late in season? I mean, they don't go hide underground and emerge in spring, or do they? Do they still lay eggs now, or am I basically killing in vain? Yeah, there's still the cosmetic damage, but it's getting late in growing season...

Yes, they do go underground and emerge in Spring, and they do lay eggs in Fall. Keep up the control now, you will thank yourself in Spring.

Great! Thanks SO MUCH, here I hoped the frost would zap them. They are HUGE now, and of 4 colors (that's slugs only, snails seem to outnumber)..

Thanks again,amy

Metaldehyde is an extremely toxic, as well as very persistant, poison, so any reference to using it should be disregarded.
