Basil leaf damage and curling

rayliveshereSeptember 2, 2007

My basil this summer has seemed unhealthy with curling leaves (see pic) and leaf damage, presumably by an insect I haven't seen (see pic). Does anyone have ideas on either issue? I'm used to big, healthy basil.

Here is a link that might be useful: Basil leaf issues, see images 253-258

The leaf curling could be caused by either too much or too little soil moisture. Leaf turgidity, the amount of moisture in the leaf, water pressure, is a cause of leaf curl.
Something is chewing on the plants leaves, perhaps a rabbit? If no insect is seen it may not be that and slug damage is most often in the center of the leaf not along the edges.
