pink bug with black spots eating eggplant leaves

mudsnake(8B)September 18, 2012

This bug is eating the leaves of eggplants in central Georgia.

The photo shows a specimen about the size of a dime.

Does anyone know what it this creature is called?

Thanks!

With just one row of black dots along the side, I'm going to say that this is the larvae of the False Potato beetle. Colorado potato beetles have two parallel rows of dots.

The FPB is relatively common in the southeast.

Thanks, Rhizo_1 and Anitamo!

I looked up False Potato Beetle and it matched my photo.
