Here are a few photos of large Sabal sp. Birminham in Zone 7b NC:
Sabal sp. Birmingham
Great pictures of one of my favorite palms(S.birmingham).I wonder how old they are?I have one that is a fifteen gallon size.Everything i've read about them say there very slow growing.Mine is working on it's 4Th frond this year. I don't know if that's considered slow or not for a Sabal palm. There was a big deal made about this palm a few years ago,but now you really don't hear much about them.I haven't even seen them for sale on ebay this year.I think it's a great Sabal palm for people in colder regions.I like the look of the one that got a good hair cut, heck I like all of them. They look very healthy and happy. It makes me wish I lived closer to Garry's Nursery in NC.Thanks for posting those pictures.
What zone is Raleigh? I thought it was zone 7. The sabals look good! Nice park.
Raleigh is about the same as us. 7b on the edge of 8a. They can get colder earlier and bigger drops, but generally have warmer winter average highs.
I'd assume they are at least 20 years old. I've gotten 3-4 leaves out of Birmingham which is inline with other Sabal at the same size.
