Caterpillar Infestation

raymondo17(z9 Sacramento)October 28, 2010

I noticed our large Sweet Broom shrub is looking rather ratty. When I took a closer look, I saw that the entire bush is infested with brown and yellow striped caterpillars that are decimating the plant (see photo). I try to garden organically, but I've never dealt with an infestation like this. Any suggestions for how to deal with this?

This looks like your "cat". http://bugguide.net/node/view/132367

The control of it looks like some recommend Bacillus thuringiensis.

Here is another site for you. http://ag.arizona.edu/maricopa/garden/html/t-tips/bugs/sophoraworm.htm

I hope that helps you!!

Thanks so much for your help, Carolyn. Looks like some BT is just what the doctor ordered.

Have a great Halloween!
