White cobwebs covering marigolds

dougsgarden_2008(9a)October 31, 2008

About a week ago, I noticed that one of my marigolds in my garden was slightly covered in a white cobweb. I didn't think much of it until now. It looks like the entire plant is dead and brown and the cobweb like covering is thicker and has encased the entire plant and has now gotten onto my eggplant. What is it and how do I kill whatever bug is doing it??? Please HELP!!!

Mites. Blast them off with water making sure to get the underside of the leaves.

Spider Mites might do this but it is not something I have seen, a whole plant covered with webs they create. There are a number of moth caterpillars that will do that, but usually they eat the plant, too. Water is a good pesticide, if used early enough and with proper care so harm to the plant is limited.
