Conservative Journalist Renounces the Right

dockside_gwMay 24, 2012

He will be called a traitor and probably much worse but it is refreshing to know that there are still conservatives out there who see the extreme right for what it really is - a bunch of loonies who would rather see this country fail than compromise anything to make sure the USA does not become a plutocracy or worse.

It is incredible what people believe.

FTA: President Obama is regularly referred to as a Marxist/Socialist, Nazi, tyrant, Muslim terrorist supporter and - let me look this up, but I'll bet probably the antichrist, too. Yup, there it is! Over 5 million Google references. There should be a contest to see if there's anything for which Obama hasn't been accused. Athlete's foot? The "killer bees"? Maybe.

I was just thinking tonight how polarized people are. I swear there is no convincing people that are already set in their mind against Obama that he has done ANYTHING to help this country.

That was a great article dockside. Thanks for posting it. There are some really nutty people out there...in fact, more than ever. It's frightening.

Esh: "I swear there is no convincing people that are already set in their mind against Obama that he has done ANYTHING to help this country"

I believe that is true to a large extent. Conversely, there is no convincing people that are already set in their minds for Obama that he has done ANYTHING to hurt this country"

It's a circle.

You can see the falseness of that right here. Plenty of HT Obama supporters have disagreed with his drone policies, his unwillingness to fight for expiration of the tax cuts, his unwillingness to fight for single payer healthcare, his lack of oversight on some of the financial processes and the mortgage industry.

Some of those things HAVE damaged this country - our reputation (drones), our financials (tax cuts), our ability to recover from the mortgage crisis, and continued abuse of financial instruments - both of which may have hampered our recovery.

No matter how many times we criticize and/or express our disappointment in Obama the right will never admit we do so ... and they will never criticize their guys/candidates. Tis the "reagan rule" which is apparently blindly followed.

Esh ga the nail in the coffin for me was the signing of NDAA .. SMH

Megan McCain was on MSNBC yesterday saying the same things.
No question that they have gone off the tracks with this extremism.
She discussed the fact that if you dared to speak out against anything the party was doing you would be called a RHINO.

I just don't "get it" that they cannot criticize their party.
It is almost like they are little programmed robots.
It is as if thinking for themselves is evil.
very strange.

Thanks for posting this. In a nutshell, it sums up my thoughts on how the Republican party has changed into mostly extremists. They are mostly the ones contributing to the coarsening of America and to the new incivilities. As the author wrote, being truly conservative means the ability to police oneself! And the points about Edmund Burke were well taken.

Thanks you for the very helpful and useful summary, Esh. I couldn't have said it better. :)

So elvis, you admit your statement was wrong?

Honestly, a little smug comment about how I made your point for you is just childish. Obama supporters have always been QUITE vocal about any disappointments we have with him.

It is the conservatives that have a hard time admitting their candidate has some bad ideas for the country.

Precisely, Esh... and we never hear any alternative solutions, either.

Thanks for posting this. This sums up what many of us Lefties think and this coming from a Republican. If any HONEST person on HT can't admit that the GOP has strayed so far to the right to extremism, then I have bridge to nowhere to sell them. As some have said Ronald Reagan couldn't get elected today. Breitbart was just carrying on Atwater's principles, and now they're both dead. Certainly won't be missed by me. As I said many times , my staunchly conservative father would not believe his beloved "Eisenhower" GOP. He'd died in 1977, and his party has gone down the toilet steadily since that time. I would be embarrassed to be a Republican today.

Not so. I give him high marks for using Drones against terrorists, and ridding the world of OBL.
