Sticky Geranium

Has anyone grown this one....Geranium viscosissimum?

I know it can be started from seed and divisions but can it be started from cuttings?

I have it - an excellent garden plant. I've only divided it.

We have this plant and like it very much. They are very common here so I've never tried cuttings (pluck it out of the ground and drop it in the garden and it grows) With most geraniums it is easier to start cuttings from cultivars than from true species. This doesn't mean cuttings won't work just 'not as easy'.

Thanks for the replies :)

I would pluck it out of the ground but it's located in a location where that is not feasible (Steppe-Toe Butte a National Landmark near my home)....I thought a small cutting would be more responsible but it looks like I will have to locate seed instead...I'll have to check with our local native plant nursery.

Thanks again,

Greenstar - your page says yo're located in SK, same as me.

Do you really find them common across SK? I've only seen them growing in the west block of the Cypress Hills.

Excuse me if I've read your post wrong, but perhaps consider this before removing this plant from the wild, it's listed provincially as status S2 (rare) by the SK Conservation Data Centre (S1 very rare -> S5 common).

Here's a further definition of S2: Imperiled; may be susceptible to extirpation because of some factor of its biology

If anyone in Sask wants the plant, it's easy from seed, and you can buy them mail order from ALCLA in Alberta.
