Identify Indian Pepper Please

LawnmowrmanJune 17, 2011

An elderly Indian woman asked me to build her a vegetable garden. She had me sow seed for a pepper that climbs and is extremely hot. It's stem structure reminds me of a ornamental bush called Nandina domestica 'Nana. I have no idea how to care for this pepper. I can't find an add a photo box. I do have a photo of it.

LOL. Step away from the Indian Hootch! Just kidding, but there are no peppers (Capsicum species) that climb, and Nandina likewise is just a bush. BUT hey, I ain't heerd of everything, not yet.

Maybe the seeds are for a Black pepper vine. It's not real hot (and not a Chile Pepper as is the rest of the forum) but does need something to climb on.

That looks like Piper nigrum to me, black pepper. It's not a "hot pepper"/Capsicum.

Thank you. Time will tell if Piper nigrum is correct. Some of the pictures at wikipedia do look very much like the photo. I will look up the instructions for caring for Piper nigrum.
