grafting jap. maple to norway maple.

Would a graft of a norway maple rootstock to a japanese maple scion take? Not exactly grafting by the book but perhaps possible/ interesting experiment?

I've never tried it, but I really don't think it would last long, even in the slim chance that it seemed to take at first. Ask in the Maple Forum. Maybe someone over there has tried it.
