Dark purple or black spots on peppers

polaksladyJuly 22, 2009

My jalapeno & green peppers grow in separate beds but both are showing spotting or streaking that looks dark purple to me and black to my neighbor. Is this normal or are the peppers sick? If they are sick, what do I do? The plants look good so far (a little peaky) but the weather here has been cooler and wetter than normal.

The purple streaks are normal, it is the plants way to protect itself from the sun. You may even see the dark purple on the pods too.

Black spots on the leaves could be a problem though, and you need to keep an eye on this as it could easily kill your plant.

Puriras do it, too, it's normal. Sometimes they turn all purple/black.
