mullberry tree and crabapple tree cuttings?

luckynes13(6a)March 9, 2010

How and when can I take hard wood cuttings from a mullberry tree or a crab apple tree? I live in zone 6a in SW Ontario.

Is it too late to do it this year? Or do I still have a chance?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I've never tried rooting crabapples. Have tried dormant mulberry cuttings - with minimal success; you'd think they'd work, similar to their 'cousin' the fig - perhaps with some bottom heat and a mist bench, dormant mulberry cuttings would fare better. I have had better results with mid-summer semi-hardwood cuttings of mulberry.
