Grafting weeping copper beech

mainblaine456(5a)March 11, 2011

I was thinking about bud grafting a weeping copper beech tree on to an American beech rootstock this spring. Does anyone know if they will be compatible? Seems likely but curious if otherwise.

Don't know about long-term graft compatibility, but sylvatica can be successfully grafted onto gradifolia. The JC Raulston Arboretum, for instance, offered a couple of cultivars, so grafted, a few years back to select new wealthy members of their Friends of JC Raulston Arboretum Society.
