fig tree removed

rhondareneeApril 20, 2007

I recently had a large (30" diameter) fig tree removed and ground out. Can I replant in that area right away? Or do I need to wait for the shavings to decompose?

Thank you for your responses!

The decomposing shavings will knot up all the spare Nitrogen in any soil they are mixed with. Either remove them to a compost area, or be really serious about keeping them on the surface, with as little soil contact as possible.

I'd remove them, as much as possible, and keep any leftovers out of the backfill for almost anything you want to plant there.
