Possibly found variegated red maple

I found this growing in the woods while walking my dog. This batch of leaves were growing on a lower branch of a red maple sapling, the rest of the branch was bare.

I'm wondering if I may have found something here and if its worth taking a cutting and trying to propagate it with some root hormone. I've been reading something like this could be caused by a virus, disease or the like. This is the only example on the tree so I am fearings thats all it is, but I'm hopeful it may be something like a bud sport.

Any thoughts? Is it worth trying to propagate?

First thought is its iron deficency. Also may be cause by low light.
From what I see it will not survive if propagated.
