Secret combination for R.Sage softwood

digginlight(z5 va)October 2, 2005

The stuff grows so well once established we blithely dipped an stuck a couple of flats worth of softwood cuttings and relegated them to the mist box. In the two stints weÂve tried so far, weÂve gotten perhaps only10->15% success.

Is there some particular combination of technique with Russian Sage for finding those percentages as losses instead..?

Response appreciated greatly as the softwood is falling into autumn..!

we find that taking them late in autumn yields poor rooting - I suspect they are too woody then. We take in mid summer, from very soft wood. Important for us in zone 4 for that winter 'bud' to develop in the plug before we overwinter the plug. hope this helps. PP
