What kind of palm is this?

Can anyone identify this plant? My four year old bumped it today and one whole branch snapped off. I have the broken piece sitting in a bucket of water and would like to propagate it if possible. Anyone have ideas? Thanks so much!

It's not even close to being a palm. What you have appears to be a Dieffenbachia. Other threads from this forum, where propagation techniques of this plant are covered, are linked below.
