a very rocky start

patskywriterFebruary 6, 2011

i have a BIG backyard that started out as a huge, soggy weed patch on an unworkable slope. i was able to clear the weeds, and a friend was able to level the yard by approaching guys clearing a construction site and having them dump their loads in my backyard instead of paying to dump it elsewhere. my friend leveled everything off by using a bobcat.

i'm thrilled now that i have a level backyard, although i realize that i don't have actual "soil" to work with. all planting will have to be in raised beds.

i look forward to getting handy tips from this forum, as i have my work cut out for me! :)

Weren't you the lucky one?!

Here's hoping you have no later drainage issues - and you have a very active composting system. It won't take too long to create a yummy yard.
