How to Remove Natal Plum?

donnainencinitasApril 28, 2010

The previous owner of my new home planted several Natal Plums along the border of the front yard, next to the sidewalk.

They were overgrown, and I would like to 'do-over' much of the landscape anyway.... So I want to remove them.

I have about 30' - 40' length hedge of Natal Plum with volunteers spreading and everything grown together - (ugh).

So far, I managed to cut everything down to just stumps. Now I want to remove all of the Natal Plum for good.

Many of the roots (1' deep and more) are an inch in diameter.

How much of the roots do I need to remove - so this nasty-pokie bush will not return?

p.s. Asparagus fern (a weed?) is riddled throughout, and I want to remove this too. (also pokie-small thorns)

(sorry to any Natal Plum fans)

I have searched forum questions and FAQ's....

Thanks in advance,

Donna in Southern California
