After reading Laura's post a few weeks about Bud Guillot being a B-24 Liberator pilot I went back to look for a few pictures I took in Seattle on June 23 of this year. I thought I would share them here.

A B-24 (the only one still flying) on the left after it went right over me with a P-51 Escort. It was a mad scramble to enjoy the spectacle and get a camera turned on and pointed skyward.

the same B-24 over the Starbucks Headquarters (large building with clock tower). Just think of this bomber over them every time they charge you $6 or whatever it is now.

Lining up to land at Boeing Field

Also saw this. a B-17G also flying into Boeing Field. Probably something of a homecoming for the B-17. If I remember correctly B-24s were assembled in Willow Run Michigan by Ford.

Something of a neat moment in time to see it without looking for it. Thanks for letting me share it.

kms2- thanks for sharing. I sent the first shot to Bud. His son took him for a ride and he wore his bomber jacket. He is such a classic guy. I took him to breakfast a few years ago and said he could order anything he wanted. He said he would have the same thing he had 60 years ago on this day. I said how would you remember that. He said it was his last meal before being shot down and spending time starving in a prison camp so it was easy to remember. What a guy.

Thanks, kms2. The pics are great. Just a glimpse into history.

Thanks Bill for sharing the story of Bud. Hopefully we will never forget the sacrifice made by all our military. Peg

Thank K,

Bill, i remember that morning.. he ordered two eggs over easy..bacon and toast. : ) I was facinated to hear that story of him being shot down on that day..

I sent some of those pics of me in the B-17.. Bud replied and said that i was right at his seat... i think he really liked the pics.. LOL.. he loved that my hair was being sucked up and out of the open windows..LOL!!!

Only 10 B 17's left in operation and only one B-24..

K..Thanks for posting these great pics..

I was thrilled to know that Bud had the chance to ride again in glory.."with the fresh haircut" : ) in the B24

We must never forget the men and women who served and who continue to serve today. I am a softy for our military as you know K... MEANS SO MUCH TO ALL OF US..

If it wasn't for them fighting for us back in the day, we wouldnt be enjoying the freedoms we have today.

Bill.. Thank you for introducing me to Bud.. He is a very special man. A true gentleman. We can only imagiane what he went through.. makes me hug my son in law even harder who just returned from Aftganistan after his third tour.

I agree.. "What A Guy.."

Thanks for the pics and stories! The Lone Star Flight Museum has bomber and flight training experiences available on 6 of its aircraft including a B-17 flying fortress and a P-51 Mustang. I love watching those old planes fly.

I know you're trying to "man up" this forum, K, and I think those photos did the trick! Great shots you got.

Now, who's got some stories of the ladies of the air? Anyone?

Bill, that's a lovely story about Bud. Sorry I missed meeting him.

My dad's oldest brother flew B-25s over Europe and never came back from his last sortie. It's incredible that there are still any WWII bombers left flying after all the flights they've made.

My father-in-law flew B-24, B-25 & he mostly flew an A-20 in Europe during WWII. He flew one mission over Italy with 25 planes and only 3 came back. He was only 21 at the time and he told us that he wasn't afraid. I can't imagine. He was a great pilot and was the Captain of the LA County Sheriff's Department Aero Bureau when he retired. He implemented the SkyKnight program using helicopters to patrol the highways. He took me out on a helicopter ride and it scared the heck out of me when I was 16. Sure glad he knew what he was doing. He was a great man with a lot of great stories. What a generation!

I bet you could! Though it is interesting most of the recognized names in plumeria ARE men.

The planes were out flying earlier this week, it is so cool to see those old birds flying over the Gulf.
