pepperoncini vs banana peppers

What is the difference between pepperoncinis and banana peppers. I've been told that they are the same thing. Is that true?

the real Italian pepperoncinis are different.

There are 2 kinds of pepperoncini. I learned that this year. Italian are mild and long. Greek are a couple inches long, small, light green, thin fleshed and hot. http://www.gardenguides.com/seedcatalog/vegetables/pepperpepperoncinigreek.htm
