Has anyone seen Red Ace?

Maxine(5MA)August 23, 2008

Hey Folks

I happened upon a mini that i really like the looks of. Red Ace is its common name and Amruda is its Varietal name. I found it for sale in the UK but not around here. Has anyone seen/heard of/had experience with it?

Thanks so much!

The only Red Ace I'm familiar with was available in the Nor'East Catalog for many years until 2000 and was bred by Harm Saville. Apparently there is another miniature with the name of Red Ace which was bred by De Ruiter and was/is available mainly in Europe. That one has the synonym of AmRUda. There is some information on both at Help Me Find.com. Unfortunately no pictures and apparently no sources for either in the U.S. Not much help I'm afraid.

the only place i've found, as you said, is in the UK
Oh well...onto other reds. I'm looking for a shortish, compactish red. Any ideas?

Two short compact reds that I've had in my garden for several years are Mountie and Sorcerer. Both stay under 20 inches tall for me. Another that gets a little taller in my garden but is still compact is Old Glory. Two that I don't have any experience are Caliente and Salute but they are described as compact growers.

Sorcerer, Salute and Caliente may work for me. It's so hard to decide! They all look so lovely!
