40 year old ogr

memorialday71(z5 N. Ind)July 25, 2005

she has a strong old rose smell. her canes are over 7 ft and suckers freely. she blooms in clusters of 4 to 7. the blooms reach 2 to 3 inches and are cupped and open flattened while still being cupped. the blooms resemble cardinal de richelieu but are more of a pinkish mauve. petal count is 25 to 35. this looks like a hybrid gallica, hybrid multiflora, or hybrid china or some combination of these. She puts on a massive display in late spring and early summer. She does not repeat. the pedicels have tiny redish glands that give a pine scent when scratched. there are no such glands on the sepals.

Looks (and sounds) a lot like my McKaig Road Pink, which ended up being ID'd as Shailer's Provence. Hope my link works.
