Mispotted rose but nursery has no clue (help id)

lovelymorningsJuly 13, 2010

I bought a few roses at a local store came from a local supplier. (old timer was tagged on this pot) Dark coppery yellow large rose.) Planted with a grouping of yellow roses.

She just budded the other day, I was suspicious of the dark magenta hued bud. Thought maybe it is the copper tone.

But alas no... the prettiest rose bloomed. very compact tulip shaped bud, opened like a little english rose. smell is very tea rose sweet, like perfume. (strong).

It was dark violet pink, but like it had been dusted with the color with a powder puff, It turned a brighter pink and a few days later now has graduated to a lilac color.

It is a lovely little rose. Called the supplier and they had no clue. asked if they could figure it out by name, perhaps it sat next to old timer on the propagation table..

They said they would have to see it and did not want to be bothered with an email. so here I am wondering if anyone has this rose. The pinkest pix are of the rose blooming for a couple days, the rose is now a lilac color turned a few days later.

My 1st thought was Outta The Blue Have a look at the photos. If that is what it is; you're very lucky for the mistake. One of my favorite roses

well the html did not work but the unknown rose link below it takes you to the page of pix of this rose.

I thought outta the blue was a darker rose, but the name would explain why it would be it. old timer and outta the blue may certainly sit next to each other if in abc order.
I was looking at paul neyron spelling?

Yet another mis-labeled 'Oldtimer'!!! Twice I've purchased a body bagged rose tagged as 'Oldtimer' and bearing a photo that looked like the Kordes rose I grew a number of years ago. Both times the rose that bloomed was yellow, but they certainly were NOT 'Oldtimer'. I'm surprised that the wholesaler didn't even get the color right on your rose. One (and perhaps both) of my nondescript yellow substitutes were purchased at Lowes.

'Oldtimer' is a terrific rose and I'd love to find it again. Vintage has a virus-indexed selection of OT, but it's rarely available. The small band I received from them limped along for a couple of seasons and then just didn't reappear one spring. I keep looking for a grafted one, so if I should see another of those suspicious body bags next spring, I'll probably grab it. Hope springs eternal . . .
