Apple Tree and Deer

SusanF123(5)July 12, 2013

I had just planted an small apple tree in the yard, and stupidly I did not get fencing up fast enough... My poor little tree has been devoured by deer. there is not much left, the top is all gone, there are a few half eaten little branches left, there is one branch close to the top that is only half eaten with a couple of leaves left.

Is there any hope at all?

It will probably be ok - put up a fence around it asap, and it will likely shoot some new leaves over the next few weeks.

But it will set back the tree significantly - at least one years' growth.

And keep the fence up for the next 5-10 years. There is nothing like going out on a November' morning and seeing that some buck rubbed his horns and destroyed your 7 year old apple tree.
